A Contest, and Why I’ll Order a Big Mac

29 07 2008

Well, I might at least buy french fries. Y’see, the American Family Association wants you to boycott this guy:

Ronald McDonald

Ronald McDonald

Because they support this:

Love is beautiful.

Love is beautiful.

The AFA, among others, sent a letter to the McDonald’s Corporation telling them to stop supporting gay people. They are specifically angry because McDonald’s joined the National Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce and helped to sponsor the San Francisco Gay Pride Parade. (more)

Pat Harris, the Global Chief Diversity Officer of McDonald’s responded:

Our founder Ray Kroc once said, “None of us is as good as all of us.” At McDonald’s we believe that sentiment still holds true today, and is best reflected in action; specifically, with our strong and longtime commitment to our People through diversity and inclusion.

McDonald’s, incredibly dodgy on food quality, but surprisingly committed to certain social justice issues… Or are they dodgy about the food because one of their secret ingredients is the gay? We were already voting with our money by not buying McDonald’s because their food is gross. How can we support their commitment to social issues without compromising our integrity? What a moral dilemma!

Contest:
There are two categories:
1. The best fic of Ronald McDonald being gay.
2. The best picture of overtly gay Ronald McDonald.
We’re going for tasteful, celebratory and funny, not tasteless and graphic.
The prize will be something random. Send submissions to [watermosaic at gmail dot com] by Friday, and I’ll post the winners next week. Remember to put your addresses in the e-mail or else I won’t be able to send your prize!
